Low testosterone

Fatigue, low libido and low mood can reflect low testosterone — but many other causes exist too, which is why blood testing matters before treatment.

Symptoms

  • Persistent fatigue despite adequate sleep
  • Reduced libido
  • Low mood or irritability
  • Reduced muscle strength
  • Difficulty concentrating

Why it happens

Age-related decline, obesity, sleep apnoea, some medicines, pituitary problems and chronic illness can all lower testosterone. Symptoms alone are not enough to diagnose deficiency.

Treatment

A clinician-led pathway with blood tests first, then testosterone replacement only where levels are confirmed low and symptoms fit — with ongoing monitoring.

Self-care that helps

Weight loss, resistance exercise, good sleep and reducing alcohol can improve testosterone naturally in borderline cases.

When to get help

Breast lumps, severe headaches, visual changes or fertility concerns need prompt assessment.
